TRADITIONAL AMERICAN RECIPE: Many don't actually know that the old fashioned recipe for Onion Rings do not use either milk nor flour. But breadcrumbs.
This version uses a Milk and Flour based batter, that makes the frying a bit more tricky. So much so that if you remove the onion rings 1 second earlier they will be soft, 1 second later, burned.
Carefully practice, you won't be disappointed.

Directions:
01 - Slice the Onions in rings.
02 - Soak Onion Rings in a bowl of ice water for 1 hour.
03 - Drain and pat dry with paper towels.
04 - In a large bowl combine Flour, Milk, Egg, Vegetable Oil, Salt and Pepper and whisk until smooth.
05 - Add Cayenne and mix to combine.
06 - Heat Vegetable Oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 190C / 375F.
07 - Dip Onion Rings in some Flour first and then in the Batter, working in batches, until evenly coated and fry until browned, about 3 minutes
08 - Using a slotted spoon or a fork, transfer fried onion rings to a paper towel-lined plate. Serve warm.
