Japanese Cauliflower Omurice with Chicken Recipe ( カリフラワーオムライス )

TRADITIONAL JAPANESE RECIPE: Omurice ( オムライス ) is basically ketchup seasoned Rice wrapped in Egg Crepe.This kind of food, not exactly Japanese nor Western, is called yōshoku (a Western-influenced style of Japanese cuisine).

Omurice is extremely popular both commonly cooked at home and often found at western style diners in Japan. Children in particular enjoy omurice.

There are two reasons why you'd want to try this Cauliflower Omurice with Chicken Recipe, the first one is because everyone loves omurice, and the second is because it's clearly healthier.

If you are vegetarian or simply wanna try to eat the version without Chicken and a bit more vegetables, you can try Cauliflower Omurice Recipe ( カリフラワーオムライス ).

Ingredients:

    300gr Cauliflower
    ( chopped very small )

    1 Chicken Breast
    ( or thigh )

    0.25 Onion

    40gr Green Peas
    ( frozen )

    42gr Ketchup

    14gr Butter

    5gr Oil

    Salt and Pepper
    ( to taste )



    Egg Crepe:

    2 Eggs

    5gr Oil

    Salt




  • Imperial:

     

     

     

    10.58oz Cauliflower
    ( chopped very small )

    1 Chicken Breast
    ( or thigh )

    0.25 Onion

    1.41oz Green Peas
    ( frozen )

    1.48oz Ketchup

    0.49oz Butter

    0.17oz Oil

    Salt and Pepper
    ( to taste )



    Egg Crepe:

    2 Eggs

    0.17oz Oil

    Salt




  • Cups:

     

     

     

    2.5 cups Cauliflower
    ( chopped very small )

    1 Chicken Breast
    ( or thigh )

    0.25 Onion

    0.25 cup Green Peas
    ( frozen )

    0.25 Onion

    3 tablespoons Ketchup

    1 tablespoon Butter

    1 teaspoon Oil

    Salt and Pepper
    ( to taste )



    Egg Crepe:

    2 Eggs

    1 teaspoon Oil

    Salt




 

 

 

Directions:


 

01 - Cut the Cauliflower in very small bits.

02 - Cut the Onion finely.

03 - Cut the Chicken thigh into 2.5cm / 1in pieces.



03 - Combine Oil and Butter in a frying pan at medium heat and wait for the Butter to melt.

04 - Add Chicken, Cauliflower and Onion and cook for a couple of minutes, or until the Onion has become translucent and the Cauliflower are cooked, making sure not to burn the Butter.

05 - Season the Cauliflower mixture with Salt and Pepper.



06 - Turn the heat to low, make room in the frying pan and add the Ketchup. Cook only the Ketchup for 30 seconds.

07 - After about 30 seconds, combine the Cauliflower mixture with the Ketchup and cook together for 2 minutes.

08 - Add the Green Pees and cook for a few minutes until the Peas are ready.



08 - Place half of the cooked Cauliflower-Chicken mixture into a bowl, press lightly, and unmold on a plate. This should be enough to make a small 'hill' on your dish (do the same for the other serving).



09 - Beat the Eggs and add a pinch of Salt.

10 - Heat another frying pan with half Oil.

11 - Pour half Egg Mixture on the hot frying pan and make a crepe-like thin round egg sheet.



12 - Cover the molded Cauliflower-Chicken mixture with the Egg Crepe.

13 - Top with Ketchup. Serve.





Notes:


- You can add 15gr / 0.52oz / 1 tablespoon Milk in the beaten Eggs for a softer texture.
