TRADITIONAL JAPANESE RECIPE: Tuna-Mayo Onigiri is a rice ball with Tuna and Mayo filling. That's basically it. But combined with Nori, it simply comes heaven. Tona Mayo Onigiri is the most popular kind of Onigiri in Japan. You can find it at any convenience stores, supermarket or small stands on the platforms of train stations.
Despite common misconceptions, onigiri is not sushi and should not be confused with the type of sushi called nigirizushi or simply nigiri. Onigiri is made with plain rice (sometimes lightly salted), while sushi is made of rice with vinegar, sugar and salt.
Tuna Onigiri needs to have a bit more than usual mayonnaise, but don't worry about the calories, as the amount of filling is very minimal.
