Japanese Chicken Fried Rice Recipe ( チキンライス )

TRADITIONAL JAPANESE RECIPE: Chicken Fried Rice is a very popular western-style dish cooked with (of course) Ketchup... because nothing is more western than Ketchup, let's be honest.

Normally, any time someone in Japan mix Chicken, Rice and Ketchup, it's always called Chicken Rice (チキンライス). To make Chicken Fried Rice (or Chicken Rice), you'll first have to sauté the chopped Onions until translucent, add the Chicken, Mushrooms and once the are well cooked, add steamed Rice and Ketchup mixture.

For most Japanese this is a kid's dish. Something kids often eat and it's also very easy to find in family restaurants in Kids Meals. It's reall a classic dish capable of bringing up a nostalgic vibes filled with childhood memories.

The ingredients are very easy to find, even if you are outside Japan, so you won't have problem with this recipe, and if you feel wild enough, try Omurice with Chicken.

    700gr Cooked Rice
    ( Japanese Short Grain Rice )

    332gr Chicken Thigh

    130gr Onion

    50gr Green Peas

    28gr Unsalted Butter

    6 Mushrooms

    Salt
    ( to taste )

    Black Pepper
    ( to taste )



    Tomato Sauce:

    84gr Ketchup

    84gr Tomato Paste

    60gr Water




  • Imperial:

     

     

     

    24.69oz Cooked Rice
    ( Japanese Short Grain Rice )

    11.71oz Chicken Thigh

    4.58oz Onion

    1.76oz Green Peas

    1oz Unsalted Butter

    6 Mushrooms

    Salt
    ( to taste )

    Black Pepper
    ( to taste )



    Tomato Sauce:

    2.96oz Ketchup

    2.96oz Tomato Paste

    2.11oz Water




  • Cups:

     

     

     

    4 Big Cooked Rice Bowls
    ( Japanese Short Grain Rice )

    2.5 cups Chicken Thigh

    0.5 Onion

    4 tablespoons Green Peas

    2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter

    6 Mushrooms

    Salt
    ( to taste )

    Black Pepper
    ( to taste )



    Tomato Sauce:

    6 tablespoons Ketchup

    6 tablespoons Tomato Paste

    4 tablespoons Water




 

 

 

Directions:


 

For the Tomato Sauce:

01 - Put the Ketchup, Paste and Water in the saucepan over low heat, and mix well until well combined (if the sauce is too thick, add more water). Turn the water off



Prepare the Ingredients:

02 - Chop the Onion.

03 - Cut off the end of the Mushrooms and slice them thinly.

04 - Cut the Chicken thigh into small roughly 1cm / 0.5in pieces.

05 - Sprinkle Freshly Ground Black Pepper and Salt over the Chicken pieces.



For the Fried Rice:

06 - Heat the Butter in a large frying pan over medium heat.

07 - Add chopped Onion and saute until tender.

08 - Now, add the Chicken pieces and cook until no longer pink.

09 - Add the sliced Mushrooms and cook for a few minutes.

10 - Add the Tomato Sauce made in STEP 01 and mix until everything is well coated with Tomato Sauce.

11 - Add the Rice and mix until everything is well coated.



12 - Finally, add the Green Peas and give it a final toss. Serve.





Notes:


- SERVING 01: If you have an Omurice Mold, fill the mold with Fried Rice and press down the Rice, flip onto a plate and release the mold.

- SERVING 02: If you don't have an Omurice Mold, you can use a small bowl.

- Decorate with some Green Peas

- Save the Fried Rice in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for 1 day top.
