TRADITIONAL ITALIAN RECIPE: I love keeping a few bags of Tuna in Olive Oil in the pantry, usually for whipping up the occasional tuna salad sandwich at midnight, when i have nothing else to eat apart from Tuna, Bread, Sliced Cheese and Ketchup.
Tuna also works with pasta, quite well actually. Italians know it. And it works with pasta and tomato sauce... and cheese.
Easy and nutritious, this is the sort of recipe that every student should have up his or her sleeve as it costs very little but tastes sensational and uses storecupboard ingredients - perfect for when you haven't time to go shopping.
BUT... DON'T EAT TOO MUCH TUNA!
Are you a fan of Tuna?
That's good, but be aware, Tuna is not as healthy as you think.
The average American eats 2.5 pounds of tuna per year, according to Cornell University's Seafood Health Facts website. Tuna is the second most widely consumed seafood product in the United States, but it poses some health risks to people who eat it regularly. Pregnant women should avoid it. Young children, who may experience toxicity from its mercury and BPA contents, should not eat canned tuna.
Canned tuna contains varying amounts of methylmercury, which is a known neurotoxin. Although your body slowly excretes mercury slowly over time, ingesting too much of it causes an accumulation of mercury in bodily tissues, such as your brain and kidneys.
Symptoms of long-term mercury exposure include numbness in your skin, shakes or tremors, difficulty walking, vision problems, memory problems, seizures and fetal brain damage when ingested during pregnancy or through breast milk.
